Making Russian Nesting Dolls
Ever wondered why there is such a variation with prices of Russian nesting dolls?
Like everything, you get what you pay for - both in quality and labour.
Many cheaper imitations are called Russian dolls but are actually made in China or India. These sets are certainly acceptable for the price but you will find that the wood used is usually unseasoned and will crack more easily when put into centrally heated rooms.
The painting of the dolls is often naive and coated more thickly.
You can usually tell the quality of a doll by the detail and precision of the painted faces.

The sets sold at More Than Gifts are handmade and handpainted in Russia. The exception to this are nesting sets that we purchased from a Fairtrade co-operative in India. We are proud of the quality of our Russian dolls and know that they will not disappoint.
